Introduction:
The Emergency department at Khyber Teaching Hospital provides 24/7 standard emergency care. The department is the gate way to the hospital, receiving up to 3000 patients per day. These patients are assessed, investigated and managed within the department prior to their admission or home discharge. The emergency department is providing care in line with ISO 2001 standards
The Team
The emergency department consists of 1 consultant registrar, 20 fellowship trained medical officers, 30 staff nurses including intensive care nurses and 10 emergency technicians. 3 managers provide 24 hour administrative support.
SERVICES OFFERED
The department has an in-house Trauma Bay and Minor Operating Room. A 6 bedded High Dependency Unit functions as a Resuscitation Room along with separate gender segregated Clinical Decision Units (CDUs).
Round the clock specialist care is provided on the floor by residents of internal medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery and gynecology.
Our separate emergency pediatric service also includes a thalassemia center.
Dedicated Pathology, Radiology and Pharmacy services ensure that patients do not require leaving the emergency floor during any stage of their emergency treatment.
