Introduction:
The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology MTI KTH is a vibrant, dynamic and progressive department, affiliated with Khyber Medical College ever since its inception. The Department has trained hundreds of fellows who are serving the women of the province on key posts in the country and even internationally.
It continues to cater to the demanding needs of an ever expanding population, whether it be Antenatal care, Pregnancy complications, Deliveries, Cesareans, Gynaecological surgeries, in malignancy or treatment of Sub fertility. It started with 64 bedded 2 units but now has expanded to 94 bedded 3 units with two labour rooms running efficiently 24/7. The yearly admission exceeds 30,000 and about 12,000 plus deliveries. The Department receives serious emergencies from all over the province and Afghani patients as well.
MISSION
The department strives for not only safe motherhood but also for the optimal physical, mental and social health of a woman. It takes great pride in producing Consultant Gynecologists and safe obstetricians who are not only sensitive to this ever changing field but also uphold highest levels of commitment, ethics and safe practice. Presently more than 130 fellowship trainees are being trained. Our mission is to improve women’s health on all age groups.
VISION
The department has come a long way in providing around the clock Maternal and Gynaecological services and is now working to establish sub specialties like Gynaecological oncology. It has also started laparoscopic surgeries. We aim to provide a holistic view of Women’s health, train future consultants and produce safe doctors.
Services
We are providing the following services
The department provides many services like 24/7 Labour room and Operative deliveries (ICU, Blood Bank facility included) morning and afternoon OPDs and Antenatal care. Consultants are on hand to deal with all types of Pregnancy complications, referred cases, Pelvic masses, Sub fertility and Pelvic floor surgery, also large number of surgeries for malignancies.
Apart from this, there are 9 CPSP approved supervisors for training postgraduates. The department takes pride in having trained a large number of Gynecologists and Obstetricians deployed not only in all the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan but also providing quality care in international hospitals. We have upgraded our Antenatal Care and 3 new ultrasound machines are under installation to provide on the spot ultrasound to all pregnant patients in OPDs. All units are equipped with quality ultrasounds, all necessary machines resuscitators and CTG machines as well which are done free for all admitted patients.
Khyber Medical College’s undergraduate students are also taught with a hand on approach in wards, OPDs and skill labs.
